Sravan Kundojjala, deputy director of Strategy Analytics, explained that ARM's position has been declining due to its poor performance in the smartphone market in the past two years.

"In addition, although Imagination Technologies lost Apple's GPU business, it won the favor of MediaTek and MediaTek with its key design wins," he added.

The research firm pointed out that Samsung, which is considered another important GPU licensee for ARM, has partnered with AMD, which may also affect the future market leader's position.
