Data shows that Qualcomm still maintains its market share in smartphone processor market, and the flagship product Snapdragon 855 application processor performs well.
A number of flagship phones released in the third quarter of this year, such as the Xiaomi 9 Pro 5G, vivo NEX 3 series, one plus 7T series, and the vivo iQOO Pro, are equipped with this type of processor.
In addition, Qualcomm's enhanced Snapdragon 600 series and the newly launched Snapdragon 700 series of application processors also performed well.
The report writes: "Qualcomm continues to leverage its strong relationship with Chinese smartphone manufacturers to bring considerable sales to its Snapdragon application processor."
In addition, the report mentioned that after two consecutive years of decline in shipments of smartphone application processors, MediaTek and Ziguang Zhanru once again saw a year-on-year decline in shipments in the second quarter of 2019. But it's worth noting that both companies are showing signs of recovery.
“With the constantly updated product lineup, MediaTek and Ziguang Zhanrui have received many customer orders.”
According to the report, MediaTek's new Helio P90, P70 and P22 application processors have been well received in the market and adopted by a number of high-volume smartphones from Chinese OEMs.
In terms of Ziguang Zhanrui, the new Tiger brand application processor series has a competitive advantage compared with the Opteron 600 and HelioP series chips, and has the potential to bring Ziguang Zhanrui back to the market.
With the increasing use of AI in smartphones, shipments of AI-enabled smartphone application processors are growing rapidly.
Strategy Analytics estimates that the smartphone application processor with AI engine increased by 45% in the second quarter of 2019, and Qualcomm still ranked first in the field of smartphone AI.
Data show that in the second quarter of 2019, smartphone application processors equipped with AI engines accounted for nearly 50% of total smartphone application processor shipments, 20% higher than 30% in the second quarter of 2018.
"Most application processor vendors are using their own or licensed non-Arm IP to solve AI applications in smartphones. Arm is the leader in the smartphone CPU and GPU market and is trying to catch up with AI." Said.
