Apple iPhone 12 OLED display panel provided by Samsung and LG
A few days ago, Apple finally launched the long-awaited iPhone 12 series smartphones that support 5G connectivity. In addition, all iPhone models are equipped with OLED displays for the first time.
This time, the company launched four models-iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. These phones have three different display sizes-5.4 inches, 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches.
All OLED panels of Apple iPhone 12 have been promoted, and shipments of Samsung Display and LG Display (the suppliers of these panels) have increased.
As per the report, LG Display has a 6.1-inch display model to provide panels, that is, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have simultaneous panels for the other two models-5.4-inch iPhone Min and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro. Provided by Samsung Display.
It is expected that by the end of this year, the Cupertino-based giant will produce about 70 million Apple iPhone 12 models. Samsung and LG retain another 10% of reserves and are expected to provide about 80 million OLED panels.
In this case, Samsung Display has more panels than LG Displays. LG is expected to provide 20 million pieces and Samsung will provide 60 million OLED panels to Apple.
These figures represent the significant growth of LG Display, which only provided 5 million display panels to Apple last year. On the other hand, Samsung has provided about 50 million units.
China-based BOE also tried to become a supplier of Apple’s OLED panels, but the first attempt was not approved. However, there are reports that BOE can provide panels to Apple later this year or next year.
For those who don't know, Apple first adopted an OLED display on the iPhone X in 2017. iPhone11 has two models that use OLED panels: Pro and Pro Max. But this time, all four models in the lineup used OLED screens instead of LCDs.
